Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Episode 1 doesn't premiere until September 27, 2012, but that hasn't stopped ABC from releasing some tantalizing teaser promos, and this might be the best one yet. Although this promo is mostly footage from Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight," it does include a new scene: Someone being rushed into the hospital on a gurney.
Over these troubling images came the words "The most devastating event of their lives" and "Who will survive?"
Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Episode 1 Are you worried? Because we're worried. It sounds like the start of the season isn't going to be easy to take at all.
Between the fate of Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) and the title of Season 9, Episode 1: ?Going, Going, Gone,? things aren?t exactly looking up for the docs on Grey's Anatomy, especially if the title of the episode isn?t even referring to the departure of Seattle?s McSteamiest doc.

TVLine recently hinted that the episode title might have "less to do with death and more to do with? something else." We?re not sure what TVLine knows, but it must be big. If ?Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Episode 1 Going, Going, Gone? doesn?t refer to the departure of Mark, could someone (or something) else be leaving the show?
It?s not an unreasonable theory. Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) fate has been one of the most Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Episode 1 debated topics for Season 9. Could Arizona lose her leg? We have to admit: It didn?t look good in the Season 8 finale (Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight"). Then again, neither did Derek?s (Patrick Dempsey) hand. Could we have seen the last of McDreamy as a surgeon?
Or maybe the title refers to the departure of some of the residents of Seattle Grace-Mercy West. Shonda Rhimes has said that Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Episode 1 some characters may in fact leave the hospital, but perhaps they leave a little earlier than we expected.
But what if the title refers to none of those things? We know that Episode 1 starts a few months after the accident, so maybe the thing that?s gone isn?t physical. Maybe it?s the exit of an era at the hospital. Losing Mark and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) will surely have an effect on the atmosphere and the dynamics of the show. More generally, could we be seeing a new Seattle Grace-Mercy West?
As long as there isn?t another merger, we think we can handle the change.
